History of Lejos

Postby yaes » Thu Apr 24, 2008 4:50 pm

Hello everybody,

as a part of my studies I had to program a simple Lego robot finding a ball within his movement area. I just finished the coding part and right now I'm working on the documentation. I would like to give a short introduction to lejos, how it was founded, how the idea came up to port java to mindstorms etc..

Who can I ask those and more questions and how can I get in contact to him/her?

thx in advance
Alex

I found this on wikipedia.

leJOS was originally conceived as TinyVM and developed by José Solórzano in late 1999. It started out as a hobby open source project, which he later forked into what is known today as leJOS. Many contributors joined the project and provided important enhancements. Among them, Brian Bagnall, Jürgen Stuber and Paul Andrews, who later took over the project as José essentially retired from it.

A port to the new Lego Mindstorms NXT has been available since January 2007. This is far faster (x15 or so) than the RCX version, has more memory available, a menu system, Bluetooth support and many of the NXT features.

Any Updates on the history?

Edit:
I have translated the text from wikipedia to Dutch:

(Zie figuur 1.1)

You will have to do a little work, but this side provides an interesting view of code activity over the last year or two...

I have to say that this post was really informative in letting me know about how lejos came into being. I really was quite shocked to learn that leJOS was actually believed to be TinyVM. So this brings us to a conclusion regarding leJOS that it is almost twelve years old.Has anyone used dedicated server for hosting? Is cloud hosting the same?

LeJOS has even been on-board the ISS in 2001 :D

The wikipeadia link above mentions it - the robot was called "jitter".
