I think you need to allow more than a few hours to get a reply to your question...
Personally unless you are very familiar with configuring and using Dr Java and you are also very familiar with things like ant, and the other leJOS build scripts, I would not recommend that you use anything other than Eclipse. This seems to be the most popular IDE for use with leJOS and is the environment for which you will get the most help here. Yes it can be complex (after all it is a very flexible tool used for many large projects), but the effort made to learn to use it is likely to be time well spent...
