leJOS / Eclipse tutorial

Postby bartneck » Fri Sep 14, 2007 7:50 pm

Hello,

We create step-by-step instructions on how to install and run Java on your LEGO Mindstorms NXT using leJOS. This may be of use to you and maybe you can even test the instructions:

Feedback is welcome. Enjoy!

Very nice
but as of lejos 0.4 shouldn't the environment variable be called NXJ_HOME rather than LEJOS_HOME

Also, the commands should be nxjflash, nxjc and nxj for flashing, compiling and downloading, respectively, as per the errata http://www.variantpress.com/books/maxim ... nxt-errata

Both sets of commands are currently supported by LeJOS. Brian's book suggests the old style, but we are not yet aware of what LeJOS may support in the future. The documentation is not clear and consistent.

The old style commands worked for us. Maybe you can report on the success of the new ones?

I'd recommend using the NXJ based commands. The LEJOS ones can get confused with people who have an RCX brick and try to use LEJOS commands on the same system. The LEJOS ones will work but NXJ is preferred.

Brian,
I would like to use both NXT and RCX. Is there a way to configure Eclipse and my computer to code/download both types of code...
Please, if there are instructions or if anyone has tried this succesfully, post the instructions
Thanks in advance

It's just a matter of setting up the compiling and downloading tools in Eclipse much the same way it is done for leJOS NXJ. Just add entries for RCXCompile and RCXUpload that point to the appropriate bin files in your RCX directory, same way you did for the NXT tools.
