Porting leJOS...

Postby alex » Mon Jan 21, 2008 11:03 am

Hi all,
I am a phD candidade who needs a Java VM running in a specific resource contrained hardware, with about 128kb ROM and 4 kb RAM. Does leJOS is a good choice?

What is the footprint of the leJOS VM (ROM and RAM)?

Any advices? Available information concerning porting leJOS?
Thanks a lot

It depends how much free memory you want left over aside from the system software. I think the leJOS platform would be a great choice. We fit the whole thing in about 16 kb for the RCX brick, leaving about 16 kb of user programmable memory.

leJOS NXJ is more advanced (garbage collector, gui components, file system, etc...) but has a footprint of about 48 kb. Since you have 128 KB that should still leave plenty for you to work with.

BTW The authors of NxOS (David Anderson) and leJOS OSEK should be able to answer your questions about porting it:
