I need help installing lejos on my nxt

This is where you talk about the NXJ software itself, installation issues, and programming talk.

I need help installing lejos on my nxt

Postby dombeef » Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:45 pm

I am using this how to: http://www.sjefdesign.nl/?p=651 to install lejos on my nxt.

I have snow leopard and I am stuck on this point: After you have rebooted your system you can test the connection of your NXT with the computer by plugging it in and type in terminal (/Application/Utilities/Terminal) “nxjbrowse -u”.

When I do that this shows up:

Thank you in advance!

Is pctools.jar inside your lib/pc folder?

In Terminal type "echo $LEJOS_NXT_JAVA_HOME". Also type "echo $JAVA_HOME" and "echo $NXJ_HOME"

Paste the outputs of all of those please. I had some problems with those as well.

nah, It's just that those paths might have been set wrong. All of that should be correct. Can you run nxjflash?

I have this for .profile

Code: Select all

export JAVA_HOME=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home

export NXJ_HOME=/Users/dombeef/lejos_nxj

export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=$NXJ_HOME/bin

export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin:$NXJ_HOME/bin

Is that correct?

No.

Code: Select all

export JAVA_HOME=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home

export NXJ_HOME=/Users/dombeef/lejos_nxj

export PATH=$PATH:$NXJ_HOME/bin

That should work. Technically, you really shouldn't have to set JAVA_HOME, and really shouldn't. If you take that out, restart terminal, and type "java -version" and it still shows the java version correctly as 1.5.0 then it's fine. Everything else looks fine.

Thanks! I will test it out and I will edit this if it works or not!

Edit: It is still the same as the first comment :(

Darn. not sure then. I'm sure it's some obvious thing that I'm missing. I usually don't have this issue.

Ah, ok, I guess I will try reinstalling the nxt software, and try again with the snow leopard fix.

It could be, that it's an old nxjbrowse script left over from some previous install, which is trying to start leJOS 0.9.0. This won't work, since the directory structure changed in 0.9.0.
To debug, I would add an "echo" in front of the line which starts java. It sould then show the java command used for launching.

Wait, so what would I do? Where would I put the "echo" command?

Open the nxjbrowse file with you favourite text editor (I mean, a real text editor, for editing ASCII files).
The last line of nxjbrowse goes something like this:

Code: Select all

"$JAVA" $NXJ_FORCE32 -Dnxj.home="$NXJ_HOME" ...

Just prepend echo to that line so that it looks like this:

Code: Select all

echo "$JAVA" $NXJ_FORCE32 -Dnxj.home="$NXJ_HOME" ...

Then run nxjbrowse again, and tell us what you see.

I was looking in the code and I dont see that anywhere? This is the very end

Code: Select all

java -d32 -Dnxj.home="$NXJ_HOME" -DCOMMAND_NAME="$NXJ_COMMAND" -Djava.library.path="$NXJ_BIN" -classpath "$NXJ_CP_TOOL" lejos.pc.tools.NXJBrowser  "$@"

I am also using the bin folder from this(http://www.sjefdesign.nl/?p=651) website because I have snow leopard. Would that do anything?
