rcxcomm acknowledgement of msgs

In the Remote Control example in the vision trail of the tutorial, am I right in thinking that the implementation of PC-RCX communications used here does not provide acknowledgement of msgs from the host pc to the RCX brick?

you can use io streams if the brick and the tower are going to be close. what i did in the past was send a positive number and return it as a acknowledgment if there is going to be some distance.
